Featured in the Comms Dealer this month is our own Jenny Gore talking about the ever present Toll Fraud threat and what you can do to prevent it. Here is her quick 4 point reference guide:
- Do you still consider Toll Fraud as a threat to you and your customers’ businesses and why?
Absolutely yes. Fraudsters are clever and evolving. Many of our customers still use traditional PBX systems with standard voicemail pin codes. With international use as standard now, fraud detection is increasingly difficult to prevent.
- What steps have you taken to prevent your customers’ telephone systems from being hacked?
We constantly monitor lines for abnormal spend patterns, we implement international call monitoring. We recently introduced a fraud management feature on SIP and encouraged customers to upgrade their firewalls to further prevent hacking.
- What are you doing to advise customers about the continuing dangers of Toll Fraud?
We keep in regular contact with our customers via monthly emails to update them on potential risks, including the evolving dangers of Toll Fraud. For our customers using older PBX systems we explain the dangers on not changing Pins/Passwords regularly.
- Are you aware of organisations that are helping to combat Toll Fraud in the UK and if so do you engage with them?
Yes, Gamma who are our preferred supplier for cloud data, SIP and hosted voice. They are fantastic at updating the channel with any fraud alerts and provide the channel with the most up to date advice enabling us to pass it onto our customers.
